Euro Porsche Cup drivers who own Boxsters?
I recently read a post here about the fact that a lot of the young guns who drive Porsche Cup cars on the European pro circuit choose to own Boxsters, typically with heavily breathed-on engines.
I have just written a Boxster review for Forbes Magazine's about-to-debut on-line site, forbescars.com, and mentioned that the Boxster was the car of choice for many young Euro pro racers, etc. etc., and Forbes has asked me if I could provide the names of a few, so they could try to call them and get why-I-like-the-Boxster quotes. Anybody know any names? We'll figure out their phone numbers... Stephan

Not to off topic but I know a lot of those car review guys love those cars. In a very recent Fifth Gear episode Tiff said that the boxster was one of his favorite cars of all time.

Alan De Cadenet raved about it in the Victory by Design show, and I remember reading an article (Excellence?) a couple years ago about a west coast based 911 pro driver that had a 911 engine transplanted into his daily driver Boxster. Sorry I can't remember who it was.

I recall an interview with Patrick Long being asked what his street ride was. I believe he said that PAG gave it's junior drivers new boxsters, while the seasoned guys got 996s. It wasn't clear if they were gifts or perks, or how "stock" they were.......

I don't understand the Porsche enthusiasts "Boxster Rebellion". I love just about everything about those cars. Wish I had one.

And the Cayman, I predict, will be the best Porsche ever--all the benefits of the Boxster mid-engine layout plus the great looks of the 911 Coupe (speaking generally). I think the Cayman will become

Knowing how corporations work, might it be that all of these Boxsters of the factory drivers are, in fact, loaners. Probably while they are on the payroll, all those cars are "company cars" for their exclusive use, but with no "ownership" to the individual, and they return them at the end of their contract. Same with Wendeli - do you think he actaul owns the Porches he drives? I doubt it.
Michael Schumacher might be the exception, as Ferrari "gives" him the Enzo along with the millions.

I didn't realize that so many of the young cup drivers were girls?
(Joking aside, I would actually consider a Boxster for a nice open top car). |
