bigchillcar to move to louisiana..

in the next few days..will be driving down in my 35' motorhome to lafayette, louisiana..probably putting the p-car on a car hauler from u-haul. i have some family there and will continue editing my 140,000 word novel in preparation for submission as well as new writing projects. not sure where i'm going to live..interested to know if any members live in the vicinity who may be aware of 'decent' places to live with full hookups..family driveways may be too small and don't think wal mart smiles upon true squatters. this will probably be a year stay, but who knows as i'm foot loose and fancy free. here are pics of the future coon ass rides.. may not be able to check back for a day or so..any advice or just a 'howdy' or 'welcome' is welcomed..

I just spent a week in Lafayette at a m/c Convention. Looked like a nice area, but too hot and humid for me. Dunno that I've ever been anywhere in the US where motorists drove faster on City streets....Not a good place to be a pedestrian!!!!!!

Haven't been to LaFayette in years, but I do recall good food! Being that it's fairly out of the city, sort to speak, you should be able to find a place to settle easily....I just can't help you with that.

Good luck.

thanks for the well wishes folks. my aunt down there has already started cooking in advance! i know the heat is going to suck..what i'm not looking forward to is having to 'park' in a mobile home park. i've always hand land, family with room or a hangar when i was still flying. now i live on a shoestring will i write. p-cars and 'parks' don't mix by and large.. any southern louisiana members to say hello? i have yet to meet an actual pelican member actually.

Make sure you find a good area. My neighbor got shot at in his 70 Charger while visiting his friends in Lafayette. He had the bullet holes to proove it.

That said, personally I'd stay away from town and move to the eastern side towards Baton Rouge into the Atchafalaya basin. Grosse Tete is nice and rural. It should have spots where you can get a lot with hookups cheap. Just make sure you keep the grass short, otherwise you will be very surprised what comes up to the motorhome at night.

Bienvenue Ryan! You will really like Lafayette, it has all the right ingredients for a year long stay. On the plus side, great food, lots of fun clubs, pretty good college sports, hot women, historic places to visit, hot women, lots of concerts, hot women, many back roads to go "play" on., horse racing, and generally the 'hub" of all activity in Acadiana.

On the minus side, hurricanes, terribly hot and humid between May and September, poor traffic flow in the city and overall poor roads.

Not sure about motor home hook ups, but probably west of the city is your best bet (out in Scott or Rayne).

There are many nice places to live there.

You will leave here 10 lbs heavier, plan for it!

Did I mention HOT women??? Hope you don't get in trouble!

Ryan hopefully we can hook up while your down here, I now live on the outskirts of Lafayette, the only thing that comes to mind right offhand is a KOA campground right off of I-10 @ the Scott exit (its either exit 98 or 99) and I know there is another place people park their campers off of I-49 (rte 90) south of lafayette in Broussard. I'll take a look in the phone book to see what else is around. Give me a shout when you get in town.

You may have said previously, but what is your novel about? Good luck with your move.

This is your novel...
Boy meets Porsche.
Boy meets Grill.
Boy grills steak and takes Porsche to New O'leens.
Grill gets upset because she's rusting.
Boy realizes he can't live without Grill.
He takes Porsche back to Grill, chaos insues.
Boy burns the past, Porsche burns oil, and Grill burns steaks.
They all talk. Late in to the evening, they feel a collective calm.
Boy ends up not only with his Porsche but with his reliable Grill as well.

Remember, sports fans, New Orleans is Creole - not Cajun. Lafayette is the Cajun Capital... or maybe the Prairie Cajun Capital...

I live about 70 miles east of Lafayette and go there all the time. There should be plenty of nice places to park a camper. My sister lived there for 20 years. I'll ask her about some places she might know. Do not miss the Festival International de Louisiane

You will love Lafayette! You mentioned flying. we routinely jump in our RV-8 and head for a overnight just to eat at Randol's.
Great mudbugs and Cajun music.

If I have my choice about reincarnation the two choices I would make are:

1) Junkyard Dog (track down old Porsches)

2) A Cajun !!!!

The heat won't be a big difference. It is a nice place. If you are looking for extra cash, you can work at the KOA campground and get your spot for free.

I'll give you a ring if I fly in there.

HEY!

welcome!
I live about 70 miles away on the other side of the swamp. I am only a youngin (17), But since I am not a native of these parts and only go to laffeyette a few times a year I do not know much about laffeyette. I know I have seen KOA's all over laffeyette so it shouldn't be that hard to find a place to stay. But I do adivse to get out of the city. Horrible city...worst traffic, roads, etc...
You will love the food though, and the women are always something to look forward too! If you are ever to come across the swamp and check out the big ole city of baton rouge feel free to tell us. We will gladly hang out.

oh yeah and p.s this isn't hott...can we say football two a days this week, yes sometimes I do feel like I am in hell.
