Front End Loud Creak

I have on occasion had a fairly distinct front suspension creek when going over bumps or into the driveway. I figured it was just the tight front suspension which has Bilstein Sports, 22 T-bars, late Carrera sway's and new poly bushings. Friday I spent the day at Mid Ohio and after my last run in the paddock the creeking was very pronounced when turning in either direction. When I got home I lifted it up and checked all the suspension bolts for torque. Everything checks out fine and wheel bearings are tight. Any ideas? Could the bushing be that bad? Steering rack has been regreased and moves freely. Maybe a strut is bad? It seems to be coming from both sides.

TIA
John

I played around some more. It's a fairly loud popping creeking sound coming form the passenger side. It sounds like it's coming from middle to rear part of the passenger front wheel.

My car creaks ever since I changed the swaybars and bushings. When driving fast I dont hear a thing (maybe because the exhaust, etc) but at slow speeds I presumed it was the swaybar or suspension bushings. Drives me nuts at times but have come to accept it.

John,

Are you sure it is not a torsion bar rubbing on the cross member mount through a distorted rubber bushing? What kind of A-arm bushings do you have and have you checked them lately?

A-arm bushings are two years old. I just WD40's inside the sway bar bushings to see if that was it. No change. This is not some little creek, it is very obvious when driving. When under had load there is nothing, but when going over smal bumps etc. it's prevelant. The only suspension component I haven't changd are the ball joints, but they look and feel strong.

After I replaced the wheel bearings in the passengers side front wheel, the creaking stopped. I don't know why, but whatever I did in the wheel, worked.

do you have a strut tower brace installed? if so, those things CAN
make your front end creak like crazy. mine stopped when i modified the mounts and ever so slightly preloaded the bar, inward

Jason,
Good point on the strut brace. I have a triangulated one I've been running since Sprint. The creek just worsened Friday. I did som bouncing and moving and it appears to be the passenger front strut. I'll get it up tonight and take a look. The struts were new this winter.

change creek to creak on the title - you are missing people reading it -- they probably think there's a tour being put together in the Loud Creek area...
