Question Engine Swap for a 66 911

I'm thinking about an engine swap/tranny swap for my 66 911. Right now it has the 2.0l 6 with 901 4 speed. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money. What would be the easiest swap at a reasonable price. What have some of you guys done?

Get a 2.7 CIS from someone movin up to 3.0 - 3.6. Use your present flywheel & clutch and it should all go together pretty easily.
It will probably have noticeably more scoot when you are done.
Another good possibility is a 2.4 E motor with Weber/PMO carbs. Lots of fun!! maybe a little more $$$ when you are done.
In both cases, a lot of the stuff you already have is reuseable.
Also, you can convert that 902 4 speed to a 901 5 speed if it is teardown time anyway.
And you will probably want a front oil cooler if you go to a bigger engine...
More opinions are on the way...

I really like Bill's choices. I'm not a huge fan of CIS and it might be a little challenging if you have no experience with it. A 2.4 E would be fun. A 2.7 with Carbs would be fun.

Can you define your budget a little? Jack O. says he built his car on a "budget".

Do you wish to keep the dog leg shifting style?
Which induction style is your choice?

The 3.0's are quite desirable which makes the move up to 2.7 quite cheap. Might show some restraint/care if you looking at a smog 2.7. If you can find one with upgrades to Mag case, might be best buy.

I bought a wrecked '87. Had the entire engine, wiring harness, aluminum banana arms, brakes, yada yada that way.

Parted the rest of the car out, and recovered quite a bit of the purchase price.

Yes; The CIS can be a real PITA, and expensive to repair if it has major problems.
That's when you bolt on some Webers, even with CIS cams & pistons, they work just fine if you don't overdo it on jets & venturi sizing.
