I have a question about a hose that connects to the distributor.
Last week end this 'bout 3/8" hose literally hit the fan. So, I cut it out. There's no damage.

My question is should this hose be plugged?

The car doesn't run any diff. w/out it plugged.

gduke, the hose is there for a reason!! It vents the distributor housing, to prevent secondary distributor drive belt breakage.Put it back!! Dan

Porsche does very little on their cars that is not very important. As Dan mentioned, its part of a kit that was added when the secondary dizzy started breaking its drive belt, so needs to be repaired.

It normally plugs onto a heading air duct to get its air. Assume that you pulled this off?

I plugged it back in but only have 6" of hose. Will this be OK? I could get more of this hose from a hardware store.

Not sure what a heading air duct is?

He meant heating.

Inside the spark-filled distributor, the ozone that's produced eats away at the rubber belt that links the two distributor rotors. Pumping fresh air in from the heater duct prevents the belt from breaking down and snapping. This, in turn, could save your engine (if the belt snapped and one of the rotors stopped in the 'always firing' position).

Like everyone else said the dist. needs to vent. Here is a pic of what it should look like

Ignore the O2 sensor connection in the foreground it's just there as convenience in that pic

Thanks for your replies. I'm sure they'll prevent major damage. It's great that we have this mess. board.

Took a trip to the hardware store bought some hose and a fitting which I tapped into the heat bypass tube. It took about 10 min. to complete the project and cost less than $5.00 and prob. saved me $thousands.

Would not have known w/out replies to my question.

Once again, thanks.

It looks just like Bill V's, except for the carbon tube which will be added next spring. Spent too much $$ this spring, had to draw the line on upgrades somewhere.
