Exhaust setup questions
I've been looking around at different options, and I think ive decided that I want to run a bursch header into a GHL dual in and out muffler with 4" tips. This may seem like a weird setup, but i want a muffler that wont resonate and looks good, and a header that doesn't have heat exchangers and isn't to pricey. Ive heard about rusting problems with the headers, is there anything i can coat them with, or any other options for affordable headers? Any comments or experiences with this setup is appreciated... thanks

If you have a 3.2 and plan on driving with that set up on the streets, every cop within 5 miles will be looking for you. It's going to be LOUD!!

Haha thats what i needed to hear, i definately want to run the headers, but is there any other muffler i could use to make it a little more quiet?

Neighbors give it the thumbs-up rather than waving the middle finger so it must be okay.:) I had my headers ceramic coated both inside and out to aid in rust prevention. Ralph |

Is the dansk muffler a weighty piece? I know the GHL is a good bit lighter than stock. Also how do you like the sound? Last question: Where can I find George's headers for sale? Thanks
|
Dansk is not bad - and nice burble sound as opposed to the tinny sound of the GHL (which sounds really nice when way up there in the rpm range. )

I have Bursch headers with a 2 in 1 out bursch muffler on my3.0, it sound great. It is louder than stock but not incredibly loud. Everyone who has heard it says it sounds great. Man when you get on it it is all there. I havent heard of the rust problem before, but rest asured I will be keeping my eye on it now.

I don't know if our host sells George's headers, if not you can reach him at (702) 433-9189. Real nice guy who has been making these for a long, long time. Another benefit from running these headers is that there are no oil line modifications necessary on a 3.2L Carrera, which many people forget to calculate when considering SSI's. I don't think there is really a rust "problem" but these relatively inexpensive headers are manufactured from mild steel that will eventually rust, usually from the inside out. Ceramic/Jet Hot coating them will simply make them last longer and look better as they usually are just painted, which quickly burns off. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1114268653.jpg |
How much does the Dansk weigh?
BTW, the Monty and Ben's muffler both weight about 15-16 lbs or so. See my spreadsheet of wt. data at rennlight.com for more info on the stock pieces. |

I weighed the Dansk muffler on my bathroom scale, so take that FWIW. It is in the mid to high 20's from what I remember. Next time I have the muffler off, I will find a scale that may give a more accurate reading and actually write it down. In my particular instance, the aesthetics of the Dansk muffler and my past experience with the product were more important to me than trying to shave every last pound. I ration that even if the muffler is a few pounds overweight, I lost a good chunk with removing the cat/heat exchangers/cross over pipes in favor of the headers and that it ends up being a wash. I know, flawed thinking perhaps but I have no regrets. Other muffler brands may or may not make more power, but I am pleased with the sound and fit of the Dansk unit. Reading some of these other recent threads regarding Dansk fitment issues, maybe I am in the minority? Ralph |

Sorry to revive this old post and hopefully you will see it, but your question about the actual weight of the unit was getting to me. So...I decided to remove my muffler during lunch today and see what it weighs. According to the shipping scale that UPS provides us, the weight of the dual-in & dual out Dansk stainless muffler with 84mm tips is 28 lbs. Ralph |
Thanks man, i feel special SmileWavy
