Rear sway bar reinforcement questions with pics!
 

Well today's project is to reinforce my rear swaybar mounts in preparation for the SRP kit. The driver side mount is covered up by a welded in "box" that holds the second turbo fuel pump. It actually is nestled into the area where the reinforcement would go. I don't think I could get the barrel nuts welded in with so little room, but I could weld the mount to the box with a few filler peices. What do you think? I hear of people tearing them, but couldn't find any before pics in the archives, just post repair. Where do they tear/break off?

in your bottom photo notice where the bracket follows the seam of the body (middle of bracket). That is where they usually fail. I am not familiar with the mod you want to make so can't comment there.

When JW welded in their mounts in our street/track car they cut a section of the fuel pump holder off to get the needed room.
The stock nuts are another weak point, breaking at the weld. I would use the barrel nuts. When I beefed up the mounts on our race car, I welded in the barrel nuts, added 20g. steel to the bottom of the stock mount. I also welded a plate across the face to inclose the barrel nuts and tie the whole thing together. JW sells a complete mount and/or a kit to tie everything together.

Thanks Guys! I'm basically doing the later factory style reinforcement(which I thought I would have had being an 89 turbo) tied in to barrel nuts. Is JW, John Walker? SRP had a kit with barrel nuts and plate but have discontinued it pending a new one from WEVO. I just didn't want to wait and decided this would be an easiy afternoon fab job. I'll have to try getting my welder tip in there for the barrel nuts and try to tie everything together.

JW is Jerry Woods. The later factory style reinforment mounts aren't strong enough. Two of my friends had theirs tear out at the track. They were using SRP 27mm bars. I would add the barrel nuts and try to enclose the whole mount like the JW's ones.
