Power Window Rattle - Wrong Rollers?
I did a search and found
this thread started by logician where he describes procedures for tightening power windows. In is initial post, he shows the following pic which seems to indicate ROUND rollers inside the regulators. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1084922494.jpg I took mine apart today (86 Targa) and found something a bit alarming (I think...) To put it plainly, my rollers AREN'T round! They're actually kinda rectangular shaped, with the corners nipped. This seems to be causing some issues, because as I power the windows up and down, the "rectangular rollers" are really loos in the rails and sound like they're about to fall apart. The bolts that hold them in place are tightened down, so they're not loose, they just don't seem to fit right. Dimension-wise, the "rollers" are approx. 3/4" x 1". they fit into the rail as tough they're laying down (i.e., 3/4" vertical x 1" horizontal) I've tried to fit them in the other way, but they don't fit. They only fit the rails the one way. I guess my question is, are these normal? Looking at the pics in logician's thread, I'm close, but no cigar. I can take some pics tomorrow to post for comparison, I'm just trying to get a bit more information to dwell on tonight. Thanks! Randy |
Targa window regulators are different from coupes. You're OK!

Thanks, David!
So, is this looseness normal then? I mean, it just seems excessively loose and makes a lot of noise...but only on the passenger side, the drivers side is snug. (Although I haven't taken the driver's side apart yet.) Randy |
Can someone point me to a drawing of the parts breakdown? I could swear I saw one here recently but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks! Randy |
