STS 2 and 3: the warm and the windy
Despite the threat of rain, Saturday and the POC short track series race #2 started sunny, albeit a bit chilly:
There were a LOT of people. The student run groups had about 24 people each (white and yellow group). Dan and I were in yellow, and it was pretty frustrating the first couple sessions. A few *really* slow people and lots of traffic made it very difficult to get a clean lap. My instructor Carl was GREAT. It helps that he runs in red group and was turning 2nd fasted times of the day in his V3 car...but damn fine instruction, and I was lapping quickly despite the traffic (or maybe becuase of it...Carl also suggested I think about eventually doing club racing since I seemed to work traffic well, but that's another story/ton of money to be spent). We were running counter-clockwise, and it was the first time I'd done the track that direction. First session was somewhat frustrating, and I felt lost in a couple of the turns. But it gelled quickly. And at a POC event you never know what you'll see: SandyI was running in blue group despite having a green car: Dan was representing the Gruppe B, showing some tail: And chasing a 944: After 3 frustrating sessions in yellow, my instructor asked that I be bumped up to blue group, so the last 2 session were in blue. Much faster group, much easier to get a clean lap. For those of you keeping score at home, in STS 1 my best time was a 1:22. That was good for 3rd in the class (out of three ), but I was only a couple seconds away from top time. For STS2, I managed a 1:19, and finished second in class by 0.2 seconds.to be continued...
