Rust in the battery box

Here's what I've found underneath my battery. I've hit it hard with baking soda and water mixture, and i've vacuumed out most of the residue. What else can I do? How about the discs in the battery tray? Can I punch them out and clean up underneath? I still plan on spraying the whole area with Rustoleum super rust inhibitor, but I'm worried about this getting to the pan.

I had the same thing and cleaned, then covered it with POR-15.

Yeah, but it's my understanding that POR only stops thew rust that it comes in contact with. What about underneath the plate?? I want to stop this so my pan doesn't disintegrate.

Yep, you're right. Mine didn't go all the way through the metal. You need to "debride" away all of the bad metal and be sure you can cover all metal with the POR-15.
