Seeking Opinions: Tint and Tail

Well, I'm really torn between losing and keeping the turbo tail. If I remove it, I likely won't get with another tail, just a plain lid (and should I also remove the chin spoiler?). And I won't go with two lids to swap depending on my mood. I just want to pick a look and go with it.

Also, do you think window tinting would look OK. Really dark, lightly smoked, somewhere in-between. Or leave clear?

Any thoughts on what might look best are appreciated.

Before lowering:

IMHO; lose the tail. it doesn't look right on an narrow body car, and reall doesnt look right on a targa. A ducktail or none at all is my preference.

There's another post, Thoughts on this car? that you might want to look at. Another targa, in a dark color.

It was fairly common to have a front but no rear spoiler, as my 84 has. I personally like the look of the non-spoilered tail, and the car seems to handle just fine as is.

As for tinting, I have tinting on my 84--sides and rear. And while it's the first car I've owned with tinted windows, I've just never gotten used to it and will be removing it this summer (and I expect it to be a PITA). So think carefully before you do it.

No tail, not front lip and absolutely no tinting.

no tail, no tinting, chin spoiler is fine unless you track the car or drive at wild @$$ speeds

I removed the same tail from my 82 targa a few months ago. It looks better and the weight loss made a noticeable change during take off.

total reverse thought! keep the tail, keep the chin due to weissach wind tunnel tests and that info is documented here...........LESS LIFT! DUH! and as far as tint........if you live in the dezert as dark as you can go without attracting johnnie law! and if you track the car..........you have to have your windows down so no problems there. in my non-humble O-PIN-ION! plus with dark tint you can hide your HK-MP5SD! LOL!

I don't know about that, someties you need to look over your shoulder (rear side windows) or see directly behind you. Say your looking at a dark colored car on your rear view mirrowwindow and you have limo tint. The outcome could be scary, not to mention the guy behind you would never know if you see him or not.

your right just like when you were 16 in drivers ed class. look over your shoulder befo changing lanes! plus the intense dezert UV's dont waste your dash and other hi buck interior stuff! but the best part truly is................the car jackers cant see yo VAPORIZER! legally carrying a gun concealed is just like AMERICAN EXPRESS................NEVER EVER LEAVE HOME W/OUT IT! PEACE THRU SUPERIOR-EXTRA CAPACITY-STAINLESS FIREPOWER! really sorry that not all 50 states observe this constitutional right to keep and BEAR ARMS IN A VEHICLE! carjackers are very very very rare here in az. they seem to have a very very low life expectancy and even a lower success rate yuck yuck yuck! I'LL BE YO HUCKLEBERRY! (cave creek,az. bumpersticker) yup.............rednecks with red porsches...........it dont get no better!

I never liked the turbo tail on a narrow body car..worse on a targa. I think the roof line makes the car look odd even with the carrera tail..I run hot and cold about adding a ducktail to my car. Then I look and this picture..and say she looks just fine without it.

Keep the chin-better handling esp at highway speeds, loose the tail! I think the tail looks good at some 3/4 angles but from behind and from the side I think they look silly.

Thanks for all the feedback. You guys have had me shopping online for a tail-less deck lid while "telecommuting" today. Checking the usual suspects (eBay, this site, etc.) - any thoughts on the engine lids at rennspeed.com? Or any other suggestions for online vendors selling aftermarket deck lids? I'm willing to pay a premium for something nice and lightweight in my color - even with a tail, albeit a more tasteful one.

And I think I'll be holding off on the tint, at least for while.

Form follows function.

I tinted mine to keep the heat out and minimize fading of the interior. I added the front spoiler and tail to stabilize my car at high speeds. Looks be dam#ed.
