San Diego Visit - east meets west

Hi,

I just found out that I'm going to San Diego for a week and would like to meet some fellow Pelicans/Porsche while I'm out there. I apologize for the late notice but I kinda' just found out myself (and while I'm at it, I apologize for the minimal P-car content).

I'll be staying in Clairemont with my girlfriend and while she's at work/doing whatever girls do I would enjoy meeting some of the people who post on this board.

Also, please feel free to advise myself on places that I should definitely see while in San Diego. I'd really like to take my girl to some of the cooler places that only people who live there know. For example, I know a popular suggestion might be Pacific Beach and while I'm sure that's a great time there must be other places that are just as cool.

Without getting into it, she wants me to move out there with her and to make the best decision on what San Diego is really like it'll take some informed opinions - that's where you guys (girls?) come in.

So, again, I'd love to get to meet some of the people who make this board such a wonderful place (and who happen to live in/near San Diego) while learning where to take my girl to some of the cooler places while in town.

Considerations: I'm 33, don't mind a couple of beers, very laid back (by east coast standards at least - hahaa). Enjoy sports, music and Porsches. Her 25 and pretty much my complement.

Finally, the magic words - the first round is on me!!!

Thanks everyone and I hope to see you soon.

Well I will say in advance, welcome to California. While I am not in San Diego, if you can make it a little further north you will run into quite a few of us (OC area) and (LA area) guys.

I'm going to be in town from the 27th to the 3rd of May.

So am i to believe that there's nowhere cool in San Diego? I mean, I guess that's what I always suspected but I didn't think it was that true...I'm allset with the beaches and tourist(y) type stuff. I was hoping that someone might know where people let it all hang out - as in many drinks...

What's the story with the ladies' too?

Bueller, Bueller?

Go to Pacific Beach to hang with college girls or Downtown (Gaslamp District) to hang with money grubbin ho's. Also Tiajuana is only half hour away and you can ride the trolley to border line and just walk across. Be safe in TJ the policia will take your money, and if you don't have any you're going to jail until someone shows up with some. For a little romance La Jolla is a nice town for dinner and a beach walk. Check out seal beach to meet the local wildlife. Blacks Beach is also intresting you can get a game of nude volleyball going and watch all the hangliders above.

If your looking for some action with the ladies stay away from Hillcrest!

Join us for a beer bust down at Qualcomm stadium.
Saturday is the AX and Sunday a DE.
You'll get to meet a hundred or more performance Porsche drivers.
The beer bust is around 4pm after the AX.
Here's the club site.

I've lived quite a few places around town in my 20+ years living in San Diego. I'm partial to the beach scene, but must admit that I have not ventured out to bars for awhile.

If you like baseball, the Padres are in town that weekend, Arizona and then Colorado. www.padres.com. It is a new stadium in downtown. Go early walk around the gas lamp district and then go to the game. You can take the trolly from Old town exit off the I5 freeway. The padres web page has info.

Definitely go to the Qualcomm Stadium for AX.

Dinner.... if you want a scene and like sushi, try Jepango in La Jolla. Good food, but definitely a scene.

Less of a scene, go to the city of Del Mar, north of Clairemont - try eating at Jakes (on the Beach), or Pacifica Del Mar.

If you feel like spending money, go to Georges at the Cove in La Jolla on Prospect Street. Pricing but always a fine meal.

If you are in Pacific Beach, try PB Bar and Grill on Cass Street, local beach hangout. Or try PB Fishery located further up Cass Street.

If you golf.... lots of courses... of course the famous Torry Pines Course.... but it may be impossible to get on.... Not too sure of the rules there.

Need more ideas? A days drive to LA to hang out at Venice Beach is always interesting....

What else do you need to know?

We are considering moving there from South Bay/L.A. area. San Diego has the best of both worlds. Great So. Cal. weather and you can drive about 10-15 minutes to terrific open roads. My brother-in-law is mapping some in his Soft Tail Harley for our possible arrival and Porsche-Harley challenge. Just built a light roll over 993 into a widebody and got no place to drive in L.A. Heavy Jones right now. You might want to check out some of those roads if you are considering the move. For restaurants and good times go to the Old Towne section.
