bellows scoop
Saw this pic on the Rennlist turbo board. Has anyone ever seen a bellows scoop like the one on this car? (Front bumper bellows replacement). Widebody could you make one?

EXCELLENT idea. I was designing one and about to have it manufactured 3 years ago. The huge costs put a stop to that idea.
The one above does not have enough protrusion

It's a pain to produce a marketable injection molded product with:
a smooth surface sturdy attach holes doesn't interfere with crash bumper movement That's not to say that a homemade device is hard - it isn't. Sheet aluminum with rivets and a few hours.

From here, it almost looks like the scoop is too far aft to be effective. It's been so long since I've had accordian bumpers on my car that I've forgotten the relationship between the accordian and the cooler.
This wouldn't be too hard to make in fiberglass or carbon. Isn't the turn signal scoop made of fiberglass?

Yes on the cooler scoop. I bought one off of Craig and it is fiberglass. Even if not terribly effective, I like the looks of the scoop better than the bellows. More purposeful.

I've done this... used ABS "flashing" from Home Depot....and cut away one half of the circle that would nornmally encase the house vent line...leaving an angled semi-circle scoop of sorts...worked fine.....
..the air flow is still "ahead of" the cooler... need to remove the reinforcing plate that is often found in this location ( protects the cooler in an accident). Details, details....as Craig said ( he was my inspiration from a Rennlist answer he once posted)....it was tough making it fit, and fit well, and then look good and be effective. I've since removed this and went back to my bellows once I took out / reversed the turn-signal housing with the side marker...and used a Euro Porsche side marker as a supplemental front TS unit. This still leaves a big open hole for the oil cooler ( where the TS housing once was). - Wil

The cooler scoop is now made of a urathane material. Much easier to make than fiberglass.

I like the look of this thing more than the turn signal one as well. but wouldn't both of them be better than either one on its own?

That part should be fairly easy to make using a squash mold and urathane. The hardware can be molded into the piece. You could even mold a bellows looking design into the outer surface to make it look more factory like. I don't see how it would be any better than the scoop i make.

The scoop you make removes the side marker light...maybe we don't want to do that.
The front -facing area of the bellow opening is maybe 4X the size of yours..... No need to replicate the actual "bellows" look...if that was necessary, simply unbolt the front of the normal bellows and insert a stiff frame or wire to keep it "hanging out "..... - Wil

The side marker light is of little value and the euro cars don't even have it. The bellows scoop could not have 4 times the scoop area of mine maybe 1 1/2 or 2 times. One of the purposes of both scoops is to have something that doesn't look home made and is easy to install without any radical modifications. I think the bellows scoop is a good idea and was my original thought when i designed the one i make now.
