I'm trying to think of what to do with my '74 targa when I rebuild it. Suggestions on intake to use for maximum street, auto-x, de performance with 2.7 rebuild? (should I swap in a 3.0?)

Just changing intake without other changes, like cams and pistons, yields very small rewards. So when you start tearing into motors it gets expensive real quick.

3.0's are great but not that much of a step up from a 2.7. Although a healthy 3.0 is a big step up from an unhealthy 2.7 and finding a good used 3.0 is byfar cheaper then rebuilding a 2.7

If you want a motor that will be street friendly and also tear up the track then a 3.6 is a good way to go.

A 3.2 is a good compromise but almost as expensive as the 3.6 so most people just cut to the chase so to speak. :)

Thanks for that input. Does a 3.6 swap into a '74, it must require new tranny? What does a used 3.6 complete cost? I guess I'd like about 250 hp on the inexpensive side but not afraid to spend a few dollars? One website recommended carbs and I like the look of the stacks. Thanks again

A complete 3.6 is around $6500 last time I checked. You could spend this much just rebuilding a 2.7. The catch is that it's not cheap getting one installed.

To get 250HP in your car I would guess would cost you $8 to $10k. There's several guys on this board that have done it so maybe they'll chime in.

Truthfully, the cheapest way to get 250HP is to sell your car and buy another midyear car that has already had the swap.
