Water damaged 930, what to look for?

I have looked briefly at a hurricane/water damaged 930 '86.
The owner indicated that the water came up to the wheel centers in height. However, it could have been higher?

However, as you all know too well, he will never recuperate his funds in the selling price. So we are trying to find some common ground where the buyer and seller split the costs? This way he sells the car rolling and the buyer gets some new stuff!

I am assuming the water was fresh water- if it was salt water I will run!!

The car is running, how well? I do not know at this point.
He has replaced brake lines so far and now has put into a garage to finish the car off.

Carpets/ seats and door skins were pulled when I saw it and it looked a bare shell!.

Apart from the fuel pump/s and the alternator- if it went that high, what else should I be looking at?

Car seems a clean fairly original example with an interesting ownership background (not that it adds any value!).

Obviously a lot of electrics will need to be addressed, but otherwise, what mechanics would be bad?

any input appreciated,

regards
Ben

Seeing what water damage can be done - I would run unless you can buy the car for way under market - for a 1986 Turbo - I would only consider something like this (fresh water only) in the 10-15K range. if he said wheel - then you can probably double it

Check under the shift linkage plate. There a bit to consider in there. Also anything under the seats. There's the possiblilty the water entered the interior of the door as well.

He did say it was going to need a new clutch, but not sure if that was needed before the damage?
The car has about 50K miles, so not in bad shape useage -wise.
Would be a good platform if the mechanics/electrics pan out to be good or if the price is low enough!.

Where/how can water get into the tranny?
And how high woulf it need to be to get into the engine?
I guess either through the intake, or outlet valves/exhaust + crankcase breather?

I am not desperate for a car and so it is always easier to walk away!.
Thanks for the comeback
Ben

What about the title of the car? was it insured? did the insurance company salvage the car & offer him a settlement? did he buy it back from the insce co and is now selling to increase profit? Is the title clean or is it salvaged? Tread carefully, my friend! What's your perception of the seller? What does your "tummy" say?
