3rd brake light on a '77 911 coupe?

I'd like to add a 3rd brake light for the safety factor to my '77 coupe. Can I just use the one's sold by Pelican for the later year models -- ie, will it fit OK? Can I assume there's no change in the angle of the rear glass, etc.?

TIA,

Rod, you should be fine. A search will yield wiring instructions as well.

Here's one good link: Wiring question for third brake light...

I've seen the 993 style "hoop" in a few catalogs lately. Just took pictures of an older 911 with one. I like it, beats the heck out of the alien periscope box look.

Rice or not rice?

I added a secondhand Carrera light on my '75 coupe, high up on the rear window. There was an existing hole on the drivers side of the back deck to run wiring into the engine bay, then you just find a brakelight wire and ground and you're home free. It's a nice integrated look.

Rod--
RickM's link is a real good one. Here's another link that shows one way for tapping into the wiring harness in the left rear taillight. Again, thanks to RickM for it - made it a really clean installation for me.

Another 3rd brake light thread

I'm pretty sure the glass is the same. What you need to decide is whether you want the 3rd light up high (top of the rear window) or lower (bottom of the window). I don't think the 3rd lights are interchangeable (they're either top or bottom, you can't just flip them over).

FWIW, I mounted mine high on the inside of the rear glass to try and get it as much into the view of SUV drivers as possible (I ditched the idea of an external periscope 3rd light). I don't notice it at all, but others have complained about theirs and taken them out. YMMV.

If you have a rear wing, there's the ET periscope 3rd light option as well.

A WTB in the classifieds or a call to a dismantler may yield a used one or you can buy a new one from our host.

That is a really nice installation Hugh R, and all on the inside.

If I was you, and preferable if you have any kind of tail on your car, I would install the so called ET third light (outside) used on the 911 86's on.
