New Fuchs 9x16, will they make more?
Well, I have been hunting for used 9x16 OE Fuchs and they are hard to find and seem to be going up in price right before my very eyes. I have tracked the sale of several sets on and off ebay. Used seem to be going for $1200-1400 depending on condition. You can buy brand new for $1700-1850.
My question is I thought I read somewhere that maybe supply would be increased since they still manufacture these, is this true? Does anyone know what the story is on new Fuchs(9x16)? Who makes them? Will they make more? Thanks, |
As I understand it, Fuchs still makes them. I know this sounds crazy, but I think someone here has cited manufacturer date stamps on the new ones from Wheel Enhancement from after the year 2000.
I think they're about $850 a piece, new, from Wheel Enhancement. It's hard to imagine the price going down very much, since demand is almost nil. |
At that price isnt it cheaper to get a pair of Lindsey racing 17" by 9" fuchs?
|
Actually, for the price of a single 9x16 Fuchs, you can get a pair of Lindsey 10-inch 2-piece Fuchs-centered wheels for the back of a SC/Carrera-flared car, and run 275 rubber instead of 245.

The price of new Fuchs isn't going to go down until the dollar goes back up.
|
Jack,
Thanks for the comments. Yea, I know about Wheel Enhancement and the price has gone up to $925each. Not sure what you mean about demand being 'nil', everyone I talk to who sells them or knows about them said it is very hard to get used ones because of the high demand for them. Anyway, I was wondering if they were still being manufactured and if so wishing they would increase supply to bring the price down a little. |
Sorry guys, but the tooling was destroyed years ago per the signed agreement with Porsche [which retained ownership of the tooling], and there will never be any more Fuchs manufactured!
There was a very good Fuchs history article in Excellence a few years back. |
I don't have first hand knowledge, but I believe others have mentioned that Fuchs does a run of them every once in a while, but not in great numbers. Demand exceeds supply at all times. Anthony is right that the weak dollar is chiefly responsible for the recent price rise.
I bought my new pair from WE a few months ago for $1,700. |
I thought WE bought out the entire stock and Fuchs are no longer made? I hate rumors, who has the cold hard facts? ;) Question is....when does the patent expire and has an application for extension been filed. If not, is someone out there going to start making Fuchs again when the patent expires?

Cost of Lindsay's & Fikse?
On the good news side, I've got a set of "like-new" 9" with matching 7" Fuchs in original finish.
I've been thinking of going with polished rim and petals, but the "banker" in me makes me think I should take them off the car and keep them under wraps. Tell me more about the Lindsay wheels. Do you have to provide a wheel as a starting point or will they use their own stock? Are the 10" 2-peice wheels at any risk of breakage under normal city driving use? How much are they? What about Fikse wheels. What do they cost? Is it dumb of me to ship my matching set to be converted to polished? |
Fikses cost like $3000/set.
Lindsey Fuchs cost $1800/set. Quote:
Why, when for $500 Al Reed can refinish them to like new condition? If you have them enjoy them. |
Hey, I just bought two NEW FUCHS 9*16 three weeks ago.
$750 and change apiece, I think (too lazy to go get the receipt). I had to order them through Porsche, from Germany. UPS'ed them right to my front door. No hassles. I got them from SUNCOAST PORSCHE in FLORIDA. If you are a PCA member, you'll get the PCA best price. I tried those 'folks' at WE first, and was not impressed with their price or attitude on the phone. I actually was thinking about getting Lindsey wheels but waned to have the original Porsche 'look'. Now I have two 6*16 Fuchs from the front I can send to Lindsey to have made into 17 in rears for DE days, for what ~$800? Works for me. Yes, you can get Fuchs. They are listed in inventory at the dealership. They are called Fuchs Black Stars 9*16. |

WE told me last year that every few years, they arrange to have about 25 sets made. I bought mine from them less than a year ago at $675 a pop, looks like I got a heckuva deal....
