Do a search on Grassroots Motorsports and Renegade Hydbrids. Grassroots had a SBC transplant done by Renegade and wrote a series of articles about it ..... lets just say they were less than impressed.

Of course, these guys may have got it right, but I wouldn't bet (or bid) on it.

Hmm...car has 915 tranny. I wonder how long will it last with that torque. He's talking about "ready to race"...how long will it last if somebody really decides to race it?

with "912 Kevlar clutch...good to 300hp"

Edit: it was 912 not 914 clutch.

FWIW, I've talked to several people now who have raced against 914's with V8 transplants, and they say they are easy to beat. At autocross anyway. The reason? Their center of gravity is all messed up. Can't corner.

Seems fine to me - looks like a 912 that would have otherwise been in the junkyard and would be fun for the smokey burnouts . . but $17K, wow!

Yep, like Wil said. Z24 was a fwd Chevy Cavalier with a sporty paint job.

The ZZ4 is a Chevy crate moter that dyno's at 350hp and 400ftlbs of torque.

It peaks at 5800 rpm when you buy it from Chevy.

Urban myth police at your service

I had a V8 914, it was not easy to beat, even at an AX.

Last time I took it out to an AX was at Irwindale speedway. track was about 7/8 mile long with abut 18 turns including two banked sweepers (part of the 1/2 mile oval). We used the banks and the infield to make the track.

There were about 60 cars running and 10 of the drivers were veteran instructors. Everything from 996 TTs to trailered full race 914s, and almost every Porsche in between. There were 3 BMWs, one was an M coupe driven by the AX chairman at the time and local hot-shot (tricked out suspension and tires, beat me by 1/2 sec.) and a couple of M3s (which I beat).
I finished with 7th fastest time of the day and I aint no driver. I was 1.2 seconds slower than an original 73RS with stickies that was driven very agressively. In fact I don't think he made a pass without killing cones but he got away with it without penalty. He sure looked cool with one front tire in the air most of the lap.

My car had 30 year old original suspension except for 200# rear springs. I had cheapo front tires and victoracers on back, stock front sway bar, no rear bar. Stock brakes with non-vented rotors, except for BMW 318 front calipers. Not exactly set up as an AX killer.
In hands of someone with even moderate skills it would be hard to beat at an AX by any street legal Porsche. It would be at least 3 or 4 seconds faster than my turbocharged SC on the same track.

This was my third 914 and Maybe Michael Schumacher could tell the difference in center of gravity with the V8, but I couldn't. If it made any difference at all the HP more than made up for it.
I'm not saying that V8 914s are cool, that's for each individual to decide.
What I am saying is that they can haul butt on the track and should not be taken lightly.
