Angry Targa Bar Trauma

I submit this to you, O Fine Pelicans..

I dropped off my targa bar at the powder coaters 2 weeks ago. I gave them specific instructions that it shouldn't have all the world's force behind the media blast because the part could warp.

They assured me that they knew what they were doing and the shop is highly regarded around here.

When I went to pick it up Monday, the powder coating looked great. Too bad they bent the bar up! The front edge which would be covered by the seal was bent all out of whack and more importantly, the top looked like it had several big dents in it.

Needless to say, I was not happy. They sent it out to a car body shop to fix it and they recoated it. The shop foreman called me and said that he wasn't happy with how it looked (imagine how I'll feel) and was going to hit it with some sandpaper and a little bondo and then paint it.

I have 3 cans of Wurth's Black Satin on tap - I could have painted it myself, and I certainly don't want Bondo!

I think he already knows that he's going to have to buy me a new part (because I'm not going to be happy), but then what do I do? Do I have them strip and coat the new one there or try and find another place to have it done? Do I just cut my losses and paint the new one myself? The real ***** is I'm going to lose a track weekend over this.

Paint it yourself, Steve. ASCO isn't as great as some have claimed, workmanship-wise, and I felt like I was f'ed by them price-wise when I had them do my engine tin back in 2003. Price they charge is totally dependant on whose behind the counter when you bring your stuff in...I think they may just consult their ouija board.

I'm sorry I wasn't there to wave you off before you went there. If only I had known...

No more bling-bling powder coating for me. It won't make the car go faster or handle better.

Steve,

I have a feeling the new part will be finished. Hopefully you'll get it in time for the DE and just bolt it up. If not, use your old and old seals to 'get by'.

I felt the price was fair for the work if it was done right....

Yes, the price was pulled out of the sky.

I'd demand a new part and paint it myself. Powder coating is good but not great, i'd go the paint route.
