Electronic Help
Hey, I got the bright idea of converting my very dim dash lights to LEDs. The guy at good ole radio shack said that it would be no problem all I would need to do is drop the voltage to the LEDs to the prescribed 4 volts and he even gave me the resistor to do so. Well, that aint working. Its been forever since I've messed with electronics and I'm finding myself pretty stupid when it comes to the way this stuff works.
I should be able to wire a resistor in line with the hot wire to get me the 4 volts with the interior ligt pot turned all the way up right? I mean one end of the resistor would go to the 12v bulb wire and the other end to the pos side of the LED no? The 560k ohm resistor he gave me dropped no voltage at all. Where is my thinking wrong here?

I almost think I am answering my own questions... the more I search around
The goal with the resistor is to drop the current to an approariate ma usually around 20. Which I should have known from my electronics days. I think the idiot sold me 5 v leds, which would be great in say a computer or something but real poor in a car. So, I'm getting there. Still could use some advice.

Yeah no kidding. I would not have listened at all had he not said he just did this and explained how it worked. Come to find out it was on a Playstation controller, which is of course, just like the dash of a 911. Dork.
