To all you "newbies" out there w/ ~100-150k...

1/4 million miles and still tearing up the roads...proves all you "newbies" still have miles of enjoyment to come:) :)

sorry about the poor quality pic, i wanted a picture at exactly 250,000 but that happened on the freeway, so I had to take it with my cell phone camera...

Great photo, who cares if it's blurry! :)

Well, if you're going to be taking pictures on the freeway, at least you slowed down to 20 mph!

biosurfer1 04-28-2005 06:00 PM

lol, there was traffic, so i was going slow anyways, but i wanted the needle out of the way so i waited for a clearing and raced up, braked to 20mph, took the picture quickly and continued on...i was damned determined to get the picture right at 250k!!!

I hit 222k yesterday. =)

Well, my '70 says 94580 or something... but it only has 5 digits. Could be 94,000 or 194,000! Lovely, huh?

biosurfer1 04-28-2005 06:14 PM

when my friends say thats a lot of miles, i remind them that it is a 26 year old car, which means less than 10k a year which isnt much in reality, most of them dont even realize its that old, timeless design for sure...

biosurfer1,

Congratulations!! I'm half way behind you, but I'll get there someday.
Just curious, besides the routine maintenance, what major parts needed replacement over the 250K?

biosurfer1 04-28-2005 06:20 PM

um, i havent had i the whole 250, but the things i have done are replaced most of the seals, had a failed tensioner, replaced the fan, thats about it... the PO didnt keep any records, but the compression is good, and it seems like i've taken care of most problems...

I'd like to see some of the higher mile 911 motors apart to see how the main/rod bearings look, etc, etc. I'll bet with good oil the crankshafts could be good for a million miles.
The beauty of these motors is their dry sump oiling system with lots of oil.

Bio, keep good oil in it and drive on :)
