starter motor not disengaging
Hello Porsche ladies and gentlemen,
Please help. My starter motor will not disengage. Normally when I turn the key I get the engine lights, I can hear the fuel pump and then I turn the key to the start position - the engine fires and the key returns to the last position. Now the starter cranks and the engine fires at the point that the engine lights used to come on. Thus it appears the starter solenoid is always energized when I get to this second last turn point on the key. Do I need a whole new key locking mechanism or just the electrical switching piece that screws into the back of the ignition key lock? Thank you in advance |

Is this one of the light wt. high torque starters?? I had a problem with mine like this.
Try going directly from the battery to the solenoid and see if the problem continues...

Could be your ignition switch at the dash as well. If the spring return portion has failed you will have to turn the key back to run yourself or else the starter will stay engaged.
Easy fix though
