Advice on unblocking Weber idle circuit
 
I have been struggling to sort the idle out on my motor and on stripping the Weber's it would
appear that the passages leading from the idle jet to the bottom of the emulsion tube well
are blocked to varying degrees ( one has a total blockage).
Is spraying carb cleaner repeatedly through the "port" that the tip of the idle jet sits
against likely to be sufficient or I am going to have to drill out the plugs at the ends
of the passages to clean them out thoroughly enough?

Hi Robert:

Not to worry,.....its easy,...:) Don't drill out ANYTHING yet.

Pull the main jets, idle jets, progression hole covers first. Remove the air cleaner bases and the top of the carbs. You need to look inside at the float chambers and make certain there is no water or dirt in there, otherwise you will do this entire exercise many times over. Undo the float pins and very gently remove the floats.

Remove the air corrector jets and emulsion tubes.

Now,......using VERY clean compressed air and an air nozzle with a short curved extended tube, systematically blow out all the passages; idle jet, air corrector well, main jet, progression hole, back and forth many times until any foreign material has been dislodged and blown out.

Patience pays big dividends here. :) :)

Carefully blow out all the jets and reinstall. Reinstall the floats and safety wire the pins as you found them. Replace the carb covers and air cleaners making sure that the air cleaner bases are spotless. Any tiny piece of dirt or water droplet makes its way into a float chamber through the vent holes and right into a jet.

Make sure that the engine compartment sound insulation pad is perfect! Thats the source of a LOT of carb troubles,....:)

I had pretty much done what you have described and found that I could not blow any air through the inlet where the idle jet seats on one barrel any very little on some of the other barrels.
I have now sprayed some carb cleaner in a few times and seem to be making some progress. Will continue with carb cleaner, compressed air and patience and not do any drilling.
