first off, matt I didnt mean to let the cat out of the bag but I just wanted to see if there was any interest in this.

Ok, myself and another pelicanite, Matt7230, i hope thats right, are collaborating on some fun porsche projects. The one matt is most involved with, has the most at stake, is the pedal box setup that we discussed. Sure I can go out and buy an AP floor mounted pull type mc pedal box but I would rather waste that money on other parts of my car. So we are designing our own versions. One that can bolt into a 911 with minor mods and the same for a 914. His project is a 914 and mine is a 911, well done already. We both agreed that the pull type mc's have several advantages over the push type. One, the mc is located in the cabin, two, no extra holes need to be drilled, third, its just awesome that way, pluss better CoG.

Our first order or business has been dial mc's, allows for different caliper setups than stock, adjustability, future modifications and cool factor. The second order was the ease in which one could convert their clutch to a hydraulic setup. The third order was Matt is 6'4" and I am 5'11". We wanted adjustability.

Right now we are still in the early stages of design, measuring and comparing our pedal "compartments" and devising the best way to go about this. I.E. same pedal box for both with different mounting plates, seperate pedal boxes, bla bla bla....

We just wanted to know if we came up with something that worked, worked well and did not mutilate the car in anyway unreversible if anyone would be interested in buying such a product. We would sell them sans mc's which you can buy from any AP dealer in varying MC sizes to suit your application. The only thing you would have to live with would be a false floor to cover the mc's and associated linkages. The target market seems to be someone that is way into hot rodding their car, needs more adjustability, is a racer on a budget, or someone that just wants the ultra cool factor. The amount of moving parts would most likely be drastically reduced, function and feel would be better and ease of adjustment and upgrading would be awesome.


So, would anyone be interested in something like this? I am also working on an ITB setup for my car and a 935 style shifter, closer to the steering wheel with shorter throw. Those would also be coming from us. I/we will most likely be selling them through my current place of employ, Strictly German in pasadena. Just started this thread the gauge interest and hear of any comments/concerns.

Ryder - I'd be interested. Tyson has warned me that my pedal box will need rebuilding soon, so I'm always inclined to look at anything that might be as good or improve upon the original.

Keep me posted about this. And if you want another test mule, I'll lone over the car for it. I know you Art Center guys are the real deal. :)

art center fart center. haha. im just glad im taking a break between now and september so i can get some work done on the car and these other projects I have stacking up. The whole idea behind this project is adjustability, growth (larger calipers), ease or replacement and cool factor. I will probably turn out one or two on the lathe before I start making real production pieces on the cnc, your welcome to try a hand made piece of course. School is closed for another two weeks so I have time to refine my design and get things really worked out before I start mocking anything up. Your car and my dad's will most likely be the first running test mules as my car and matt's are far from completion. Heck I still havent painted it! I will keep you up to date on it as things get closer to completion.

901 Shop in Stuart Fla. makes a complete bolt in unit using Girling MC units. Their box is built on the stock pedal box and bolts in without any mods to the floor board.

As cool as that is you still have to cut a couple holes in the bulkhead. Thats what we want to avoid, plus you will be able to change mc's inside the car without lifting it up and the ability to move on to a hydraulic mc if you so choose or stay cable op'd.

Hey, I just found this post. The AP racing pedal assembly is the coolest Ive seen. Its very light weight (all aluminum construction), and uses pull type master cylinders, but like ryder said it wont bolt into a 911/914 worth crap. Thats where I want to design one. Ive already got a pretty good start, and I'll do a lot more this weekend hopefully. The best part, AP sells pull type master cylidners from 14-23mm for a wide range of applications. And I'll build in a bias bar to keep it extremely adjustbale. I'll keep you guys updated!

Hey matt whats up? Are you coming home this weekend, if you are lets take those impressions and start mocking up dimensions so we can get some nonsense together for when the shop opens up again at art center.

As Matt said we want this to be a true bolt in. No cutting, welding, hacking anything. The setup also allows you to easily change to a hydraulic clutch at a later date. The only thing you have to deal with is a false floor to cover the mechanicals and the mc's.

We are hoping to have at least one 911 proto up and running in the next few months and then as soon as Matt can finish his 914 we can try it out in there. Keep in mind that I am 6ft and matt is a beanstalk at 6ft 4, we will be able to adjust the pedal placement, hehe how cool is this. Matt I will talk to you later, Dave if your still checking this out pm me an email so I can let you know as soon as we have a proto up, plus I wanna go drinkin with the fellas now and then.

[2] light wt.
[3] reasonable price
[4] brass or teflon or something that lasts a long time bushings

Full sealed ball bearings in the pedals. It will be smooth as silk and will last forever. The price is very reasonable for bearings versus bushings too.

Jereon, I didnt post on the 914club yet. 914 owners are too cheap :D
Actually I was going to wait over there until I had at least some pictures of a mockup. I dont want to get that dreaded smiley. I will post soon though.

Matt - how far along are you and Ryder with the pedal boxes?

Cool! 'Cause my pedal box is starting to sound like a violated sheep each time I press the clutch. :eek:

I dont think it will be that quick. My pictures will be of a solid model on the computer.

Hey Matt I cleaned up an extra pedal set I had laying around so we can replicate the mounting points exactly. We can check it out this weekend and discuss our best course of action.

Dave the shop at school isnt open for another two weeks so I have to wait to get something going on the mill. Sorry, the wait will be worth it though, trust me.

Matt I also took some dimensions and will start welding up the 935 shifter either this weekend or next and see what happens with it mounted in a car. The ITB's are last on the list right now.

And just to protect yourself, check out the billet valve cover thread (my comments + various others and the backlash), and the comments from the guy who made a bunch 917 shift knobs and then didn't sell as many as he wanted to or thought he would, or people said they'd buy.

Don't get me wrong here - I want you to make a nice piece and offer it up. But I don't want a whole bunch of people to sour on the small time Porsche aftermarket either and have everybody chased away form doing that....

randy, this whole thing started because matt and I were talking one night and were talking about an awesome picture we saw of the AP pedal box in a magazine. basically we just wanted a unit that could grow with the car and be extremely flexible in terms of maintainence, adjustability, so on and so forth. will this be "billet"? if you consider taking a block of alu. and turning out some proto parts on an old bridgeport mill from rockwell engineering then sure, you can tell ppl you have a billet part to go along with a billet shift know and e brake handle which also matches your billet valve covers. your right that word is tossed around too much and i am sure if you ask someone what it actually means they wont have a clue.

so after we make some up for ourselves and a few other cars to test them on if there is interest we can make more, will most likely be a made to order thing along with the other fun stuff we have planned for ourselves haha.
