Are There Cheap 17" Track Wheels?

Thinking about upgrading my track wheels. You can get a set of steel 16's very cheaply, however, the 10's leave a very limited tire selection. Does someone make a set of 17" in a similar price range?

John

It depends if you want forged, 3 piece, or cast wheels. Its hard to go to 17's and then settle for heavy, cast wheels only because there cheaper. The will most likely cost you time and besides, there not as race proven as fuchs. Best bet is to find a set used, either on Ebay, Panorama, or asking around at the track.

Be careful buying used wheels, there are a lot of cracked Fuchs, Fikse and Kinesis and others floating around. Most people are reputable but unfortunatly not all

The Lindsey 17-inch Fuchs are in the same price ballpark. They look like the Fuchs they're made with, and they're lighter than the same-size Fuchs.

Has anyone ever run a combination of 16" fronts and 17" rears? That way you could run 7,8, or 9s on 225 or 245s up front and use a Linsey 17 to run 255 or whatever. It may look strange but be an interesting compromise.

I thought the most recent post on a guy who got a set of Lindseys was $2000 to his door. It's not the absolute cheapest, but it compares pretty well with most of what's out there.

Later model wheels can be picked up cheap, but they're not always light, and spacers/adapters are a pain in the neck if you're switching back and forth with your regular wheels.

Lindseys are around $2k in a 7.5 & 9x17 set-up. I'd like to get a new set of wheels and I'm see all the attention the steel ones are getting right now. You can get a set of 8&9 or 8&10x16 for under $500. That is cheap!

You can fit a 10" in the back of your car with a 275 with some minor mod's. I know a 9" and 255 has plenty of clearance.

(These actually could be a sweet deal, maybe I should remove this link for myself?)

Better yet, get a set of these ROH wheels and convert your fuch to track wheels. I went the other route - and found a nice set of 8's and 9's BBS wheels that will be my track wheels as soon as they get back from mr al reed.

ROH wheels

89911,
I saw those wheels, but I didn't think 10x17 would fit my Carrera. However, if you buy them I'd love a deal for you Fikse's.

I have 7&8x16 fuchs for the street and a set of 7&9x16 OZ Fittipaldis for the track, but I'd like a little more meat up front and they aren't real nice looking. I was hoping to sell my track wheels and invest in a new set for a reasonable amount of additional cash.

John

Yes, I was looking at 9and 11x17s, which are more. Cant argue with the look though. They definetly look awesome.

Re Lindseys, which sizes gives you the best tire choices? Any trouble with selection on the 7.5 & 9x17 set up?

You can't get 9's, I'm pretty sure. 8x9.5x17 is probably the best way to go for a car with SC/Carrera flares.

IROC Mike has the setup you describe. Nothing strange looking about his car whatsoever. One of my favorite cars on the entire board.

So not to go too far OT, but anyone know whether you can fit Big Reds under the 17" Lindsay wheels?

jpnovak reported they would not fit without spacers.

FS Big red (993TT) brake kit for 911

They do fit over 964 calipers, no spacers needed.

You need to tell Lindsey what brakes you are running when they make the wheel. It has the clearance of a 6 inch Fuch. He needs to put them together so that a spacer is used to clear the brakes.
