First Engine Drop - Success
Well, I finally did my first engine drop. We did it at my friend's shop. He owns a Ford dealership. So he and his brother and I did the drop. Took just under an hour. Went quite smoothly. I was quite impressed and amazed at how easy it went.
The bad news is, once we took the clutch and pressure plate off to replace them, we realized the flywheel was toast. It had clearly been resurfaced before and was down to nothing. Anyhow. The engine's out. I've got a bit of work left to do, but we should have it back in this Tuesday. Just wanted to share my joy... Major weight reduction ![]() Mark and James realizing this isn't a Ford... ![]() Flywheel burnt right through to the backside. ![]() Jim

Do you plan on going to an aluminium flywheel?

Didn't know there was such a beast. I find it's hard to find parts for the 901 tranny. Especially on short notice.
Got another flywheel from a Porsche mechanic nearby. Not new, but lots of life left, and saved a few bucks. He does a lot of race conversions. Came out of his 2.0

Thanks
They're good friends and great guys. Their family owns the dealership, but they're more at home in the shop. They'll pretty much tackle anything, and they know their stuff. Certainly helps with Pcar ownership. Plus it gives me a place to do the stuff I can't do in my garage.
