911S question
Hi you guys! Hope you had a great day as I did here in Atlanta. I worked on my Porsche in the morning, then dumped it for a ride in my MG with the top down. It was 80 degress today and my MG and I had a ball!
BTW, if anyone can go, I will be showing the MG at the Chataeu Elan car show on May 7th. Anyway, here is my question: here is a pic of the left rear wheel well of m7 75 911S. I am wondering: Isnt there supposd to be some kind of barrier between the road spray of the left rear wheel and the hot valve cover? It looks like the VC will get all the road spray. If not, its no wonder the VCs warp & leak. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a shield between the wheel and the engine? Surely there is!

Kelly,
No answer to your question, but you should have brought that MG by the Mitty. Some awesome MGs and Triumphs (Porsches, too) racing this weekend.

No, there is not supposed to be a *shield* of some kind between the wheel and the motor. It is an air-cooled engine, and the bottom is the *hot part* of the set-up, ie. that is where the heat is shed. What exactly do you imagine happening from "wheel spray" being that near the bottom of the engine?
FWIW, most vehicles of all kinds have had the bottom of their engines exposed to the elements, (and whatever is splashing around down there), for ~100 years. There is an aftermarket device known as a "heatshield" that partially blocks off the lower VCs, but that is to separate them from the heat of a catalytic converter, not harmless road splash.
