stay positive.... I started sweeping and mopping, and a year later, my boss(Tom Amon) saw my interests on cars and had me work off his hip. Did the apprentice program for 4 years and was on my own from there. Also, a big plus!!! start getting your tools together. Thats one thing i didnt do, and worked out of my mentors box for awhile...Go ahead and brake a snap on rench, or loose a socket when you getting payed $14 dollars an hour.

There is a shop in Auburn (Renntech). It would be a long drive, but the owner is a Knowledgable guy and has helped young folk out in the passed. Talk t Gary.

Ditomaso,

i learned alot about detailing mostly, but i didnt work at porsche, i worked for mercedes and then toyota, but i would assume porsche is the same, some tecjhs are nice about letting you hang around, other arnt...one tech at mercedes let me help him out all the time for the price of washing his car once a week, and since mercedes sold very few cars per month, that was a great deal with all the down time. i will tell you though, working for porsche will probably be the same as mercedes, in the they will expect a perfect car for delivery, everytime, toyota was splash some water on it and get to the next one, hard to decide which one i liked better, toyota was easier, but mercedes had much satisifaction in the finished product, but the owners can be a pain to deal with...i would work for porsche in a second if i didnt already have a great job. good luck.
