Question Cab Conversion - What's it worth?

Oh omnipotent ones! I have a 78 SC Targa and would love to have a Cab - my question is simple - will my car become undesirable if I perform a cab conversion? Not that I would ever sell it but would like to know if it would then become "untouchable" in P-car circles. And while were on the topic of value, what is a fair value for this year targa vs. cab? It has the standard upgrades (Carrera chain tensioners, pop off, turbo tie rods and valve covers) with around 145k on the odometer.

Thanks,
Rob

It's already an SC, so how much worse could it get ?

But seriously, a well-done cab conversion shouldn't hurt it's value, and in fact might slightly raise it, as in some circles, cabs are more desirable than targas.

Anyone ever do a coupe? I'm assuming with all the reinforcement required it wouldn't be worth it.

If you have a targa and want a cab, go for it. Why not?

I think the higher mileage would hurt more then a cab conversion.

I say go for it cabs rule

I love this board...always one step ahead of my next question.....That was my last concern about doing the cab conversion, potential value issues. (that and my welding skills....)

I am so ready to do this conversion.....Now I just need to clear a weekend and some welding practice time...

Thanks to all who post, this is a great resource for us newbies....

Chris

I am thoroughly engrossed in Thom's site (Thank you Thom!) One question, is there any other structural mods that need to be done? It's seems like I read somewhere on here that the rockers needed to be reinforced - does that seem right?

Not 100% necessary, but it helps. These are available from the same guy who makes the cab hinge mounts (details on my cab conversion page)

Nice work.

I wonder if the welding in the sil area a want or a need?

"Need" for the track, "want" for a daily driver.

I was just thumbing through some P-car mags and it dawned on me - what about seals for the Cab top vs the Targa top? Do you need to change any for the doors? or any place else (besides the obvious)?
