door strike plastic broken - 73
The white plastic inside my door latch / strike is broken. What does the plastic do? I see there are complete replacement strikes, but the rest of the part is good. Can I get just the plastic?

Paul,
Was this a PB-Blaster kind of thing? Are the threads behind the bolts open to the rear wheel well? Thanks for the help. |

Yes, the bolt ends do protrude into the wheel well and do get very gunged up with debris. If they haven't been loosened in years they will need to be treated carefully. I stripped out the head of one and had to drill it out in order to remove it. Clean the bolt ends very well and PB blast them in advance. Make sure the 12 point fits tightly into the bolt head and go slowly. You can do it!

does our host sell these? I've searched and can't find them under "door latch" or "door strike".

cool! I thought consensus was there were no rebuild kits. That's great.
