Pelican Parts Forums - What not to do when adjusting MFI

Here's a little heads up. I was adjusting the mfi on my 72 and dropped the allen bolt that plugs the hole. I could not find it for the life of me, so I found another one that was kind of long. With allen bolt out, car on I adjusted the pump. Turn car off put allen bolt back in and start. Drive car and it would backfire in first gear when I would let off the gas. I adjusted that damn pump about 20 times on sat. and then realized that with car running if you put the screw driver in and push on the rack the engine idle drops like crazy. So what this knucke head realized is that the allen bolt I was using was so long that it was pressing the rack in and causing the car to run like crap. Oh well just had to tell the story so no one else does the same.
Here's another heads up-if your mfi car is running crappy from around 2000-5500 rpm when warm, and you have tried everything else make sure that the MFI heater hose is not cracked under the plastic sleeve that covers it. This was another prob. that drove me nuts last summer. I pulled the sleeve off about 5 inches and the heater hose was split in half.
