The carnage at a Porsche junkyard - Photo tour of 20th Street Automotive

Went down to 20th Street Automotive looking for a few parts today. Took the camera along for those who've never been to a Porsche junkyard.

The yard:

The 911 section:

The early 911 section:

What seems to kill most early cars? Engine fire:

Then... there's the gem among the junk. 2.2L S engine waiting for a new home:

Funny, I just called them today about a dash pad. I've bought 9" fuchs and 930 calipers off them and have been pleased.

Some die, that others may live.

I love book stores and record stores and thrift shops. But the images above represent the most wonderful of all possible shopping sprees.

Did they allow you to walk the yard unattended?

They did - after signing a waiver.

"Oh! The Humanity!"
Do you realize there are more junked and smashed P-cars in that location than I have seen in my life up here in the sometimes-frozen North? Sigh

Did you take any pics of cars that had front end crashes?

I'd be interested in seeing how the driver did...

And they only want $7,950 for the 2.2S engine....yikes! They are also asking $7,900 for a 3.2l with 120k miles. Do they actually get these prices?? Maybe I should just part out my car!

Those pics are kinda hard to look at- the only saving grace being that the cars are being torn down so that others may live.
I wish they could all be resurrected...
Article on the same subject in this months issue of 911 & Porsche World, pp.96.

Cheers,

Paul.

Strangest looking 2.2S engine I've ever seen with carbs and a black shroud and all that ...

I wouldn't pay $7950 for what I see in that picture! It looks more like a T engine to me.

I posted all the photos I took.

The cars there are pretty well picked over for little stuff. For instance, I couldn't find a decent piece of quarter window trim. As far as pricing I've only bought a few parts from them, but felt they were fair considering I can't run down to AutoZone and buy the stuff there.

I got excited when I saw a bunch of long hoods sitting on a rack... some still had hood emblems. They were flat emblems, but unfortunately they were the later version with red bars instead of orange.
