VIN label for door jamb area -- old posts deleted in archives

I tried the search first but couldn't find the thread I was looking for. Searched by key words and my name. Do they delete old posts sometimes?

Anyway everyone said don't worry, don't worry replacement VIN lables for the door jamb are easy to get through a Porsche dealer. Well today was the day I had all the paperwork together and had time to visit a dealer (two actually). You see I want to have a new cert label in a few weeks because restoration will be done then. Old one could not be saved during the re-painting.

Both dealers told me that the sticker is available for 86 and newer only. I have a 1970 914-6. One guy also said I needed to give the dealer the old VIN sticker which is odd because mine was too fragile to remove and I'm sure many guys bought cars with no VIN sticker or painted over.

For those of you expert in this subject is what they're telling me correct? If not is there another way to get, maybe a more in tune dealer out here in L.A.?

Many thanks guys.

Pete

Theres a guy on here that is making really nice OE stickers...can't remember his name, but search for fan housing stickers, and I bet he comes up...

Is there something about the sticker (mine is a grey market '73) that makes it impossible to reproduce??

Well...they are technically illegal to reproduce....it's a vin #

The dealer and PCNA were the only places to get them...AA supposedly has an in with the factory for 914s...
