What model Blaupunkt is this? - And other old radio questions.
Got this from the German Ebay for around $70 shipped. Any idea what model it is? There's no sticker or numbers on it:
![]() I know it's not original for my car, but it's sure a lot closer than what was in it. I don't have the original dash section where the radio goes. I've seen photos, but don't know how it's constructed. I'm considering trying to make one. Any suggestions? What was used to mount the radio into the hole? There were several metal bits on the shafts of the aftermarket radio. I'm not sure which ones came with the car and which ones came with the aftermarket radio.

It looks like a Euro Hamburg. The radios in VWs often had the two knobs with musical notes. The other MKU knobs are Euro presets. You can also tell the Euro from US by the Frequency bands. 104 versus 108 MHz

The buttons aren't presets at all. Pushing the K, M, or U buttons chooses the band. I can't tell what the musical note buttons are for. They are independent of the band buttons. I thought they might be for tone but couldn't tell the difference during a brief test last night.
I tried the K band... very freaky as the first station I tuned in was a German station!

Lee-
You can make a dash insert as seen in Michael's post easilly enough. I made mine from thin guage galvanized steel sheet (purchased at a hardware store). I used contact cement to adhere new basketweave vinyl to the plate. The assembly slides into the aluminum trim. Make sure you leave a little extra at the left end to wrap aroud the end of the aluminum trim where it meets the glove box. I think that the original radios had a piece that spaced the radio back from the trim plate, and allowed it to be secured to the dash structure. I improvised with a stack of washers- not too elegant, but impossible to see when the car is in use. -Scott

Hey Lee,
Does that radio have the 12v/6v switch? I've got a Franfurt from early 70's that is 12v only. I need a 6v for a 356 so if you are interested in a trade, let me know.

Fritz, I have an early Hamburg US that is 6/12V switchable. It was in my 70 when I bought it but, I think it's a circa 65-68. Don't know if it works yet. I started to clean it up last night in prep with another posting of stuff for sale. I bought a US Frankie to match my Kardex. I'd still might be open for a trade though if Lee isn't interested.
Don't mean to hijack your thread Lee if your meaning to sell or trade your radio. I'll just draft ya ![]() Oh, and Fritz, your fenders shipped Monday. Sorry it took so long. Now that I'm home for awhile I'm on a mission to keep the momentum up!

Fritz - No, my radio is 12V only. If you are looking to get rid of your Frankfurt do let me know. I'd prefer the correct radio in my car, but got tired of looking. I figured I could recoup the $70 I've got in this one if I found a nice Frankfurt.
