Rubber bumper melted to valance (pic)... how to clean?

My rubber bumper is melting/melted on my rear valance. (Track use gets the turbo glowing, and the PO bent the muffler back so I think it contacts the valance transferring the heat.)

In any case, I have a new muffler and I want the valance cleaned.

What do I do to get it back to "new" again? Strip and repaint? Chemicals? Buy a new one (where)?

Remove the valance forever? I've got too much crap down there that needs to be hidden...

I see Pelican sells one for $124 (part C-505-171-08-GRV). It appears single outlet.

Does anyone sell replacement steel valances (dual outlet)?

Carefully scrape the melted rubber off. If lucky, the use of progressively less abrasive polishes wil bring back to new.

Or just unscrew, sand down and buy a can of color matched paint from www.towerpaint.com and respray.

Are you sure that isn't some other sort of goo?

I believe those bumperetts are a thermoseting foam. (shouldn't melt . ..burn or charcoal maybe, but not melt)

I think he was recommending to get rid of both of the huge rubber bumper pads, and paint the bumper, then mount it without them. I also prefer this look, it is much cleaner IMO.
Sand down the melted rubber until it is smooth with the bumper.

i have the same "melting" issue with my rear bumper, though it's on the passenger side. the black bumperette is pulling away from the bumper a little in the same location.

Ah, that does make sense. Great idea ~ but not this time. I will eventually need the front and rear bumpers sprayed (from rock chips), that will be the time for removing the black blocks.

It's bumper. I even mounted aluminum-faced fiberglass heat shield to prevent more damage. It helps, but man it gets HOT down there.
