'Wove' my Wevo Shifter

Got tired of waiting for the factory short shift kit (I'm an impatient guy my family always tells me) so I bought a Wevo shifter (from Pelican).
What a difference it makes. I read a lot about them here, thanks everybody for your past opinions. Had it installed last week and it makes me want to spend a lot more time in my car.

In what ways is it better?

I don't like the way my car shifts, it is easy to make it grind when going from 1st to 2nd quickly... so I will look into this over the next few days.

At the same time I'm considering getting a wevo shifter as well.

Shorter shift vertically (1 to 2 and 3 to 4) as well as horizontally (2-3). Shifter rests between 3-4 with light spring to 1-2 and heavy spring to 5-R. No grinding from 1-2; I think that is usually specific to the car and mine didn't do it before the Wevo. If I go to first too quickly when coming to a stop it will grind but not anymore since I am used to that characteristic (this happened before Wevo installed.)
My shifter knob in 2 used to rest too close to the seat especially when my daughter drove the car. Now it's not even close. The positioning of the lever and knob is better.
BTW, I also replaced gear oil with Swepco 201 and replaced the coupler (OE) in the back before the Wevo was installed. All these things combined make it a better shifting car but the Wevo is very noticeable. It is more of a click-click type shift. The 915 still has its nuances but I really like the change the shifter has made.

Howie,

Did you replace the shift coupler with a stock one or the Wevo precision shift joint?

Stock shift coupler because I did it before I decided to go with the Wevo shifter. Probably would go with the Wevo coupler if I had to do it all over again.

A Wevo shifter, as nice as it is, isn't going to help your second grear synchro move any faster.

Amen; speed shifting a 911 ain't in the cards. That ever-so-slight pause works wonders toward extending the life of your tranny.

The shifter is one of those products that makes you say "who would pay 595 for a shifter?" Then you buy one and say "why did I not buy this thing a long time ago" It is that good. I have a lot of "pricey" mods on my car and this one of the few where I can say it was money well spent.
At 595, I felt like I got my money's worth.

I had the Wevo coupler installed and noticed an immediate improvement in the shifting. Less side to side play and definitely more distinct. My shift to 1 and my 1-2 shift lost ALL it's baulkiness.

Recommended.

Just got my shippment of Wevo engine/transmission mounts today and will get those in soon. I believe this will reduct drivetrain vagueness further.

Want to see how this goes before I order the Wevo shifter. Piecemeal to get a clear definition of what each component does.

Some of the guys posted the spring was a little stiff in the shift into the 1-2 plane and recommended swapping to the lighter/est springs.

Wondering if you find this to be the case? Still tossing up between Wevo and Rennshift for this unit.

Simon
