Call Matt at Eurometrix in Groton MA. Do a search on "Eurometrix" here on Pelican and you'll find a link to his web site that has been published here before.

I am rebuilding my Weber 40IDAs (4) in my 512 Boxer right now.

The carb kit I am purchasing (royze brand) includes 2 throttle bushings which are press fit in, I am apprehensive to dissassemble the throttle shafts as if you don't get them exact you will wear your intake bores out, my shafts make a slight clicking noise at idle but were not leaking air as I sprayed carb cleaner in the area and it had no effect at idle, when the carbs are apart I can't move the shafts at all so they seem okay in this test also to me.

So how much movement do you have in your shafts is the question?

If the shafts are too worn you can get oversize shafts and have them line bored and rebushed, but I would try the bushing in the rebuild kit first, now I am fairly certain the Ferrari 512 Weber 40s are almost identical to the P 911 other than a few extra progression holes and linkage arrangements but I could be wrong. The kit I bought was for 911s though.

When are they junk?
I would say if your intake bores are too worn from the butterflys wearing grooves in them, this is due to worn throttle shafts/

Rebuilding them is easy, just take your time and be careful and clean, get a gallon of carb dip to soak the bodys and parts in, I would reccomend it as it gives you a good understanding of how the carbs work.

Matt at Eurometrix will rebush and reshaft bodies as needed, he also refurbs the butterfly itself so that it fits exactly in the barrel. Call him up and ask he and he'll be happy to tell you exactly what he can and can't do.
