S cams - when does the power fall off?
My 2.0L S runs hard all the way to redline and seems to pick up power all the way there. Where do the S cams actually start to fall off? If a motor were built with lighter rods, ARP fasteners, Woods springs, Ti retainers, etc, how high could this type of motor go until the power falls off (as long as adequate fuel is supplied)?

kenik,
The answer can be found on a dyno plot ... The real world answer is ... it depends on displacement, and valve & port sizes. Your engine's peak power is at 6800 rpm, so it must be an adrenaline-induced illusion that it increases all the way to 7200 rpm!

Adrenaline has a way of doing that...
I'd imagine the rush past 6800 to the 7250 redline would be illusory in this manner.

Kenik,
One of the locals, Brooke, "rswannabe", posted some great dyno info on his 2.2S engine last year here and on the early s forum. Take a look at what his dyno sheets say. |
