Muffler gunk?
Anyone have the black spots above the tail pipes on the under side of their bumpers? I think it is a combination of heat and running rich that cause this. Looks like a burn spot. I try to scratch it with my finger nail, and a little bit of it comes off. Any ideas as to what this stuff is and how to get it off. I had the car detailed by a car wash last week, and they didn't get it off. This stuff is on there pretty thick. I have a 88 930, so I think it runs extra hot. I am not on boost all the time.

Hi,
I have the same issue on my 80 SC. I just use and dish srubbing pad and lightly rub it out with "Gunk" (the engine cleaner stuff, doesn't seem to bother paint) when I wash the car. Usually need to clean this about every few months. Looks good as new. .Steven 1980 911SC
