Are my fuchs anodized?

My fuchs have guards red with petals and lips. Before anyone says anything, I'm painting the red with Wurths black satin this weekend.

The shiny part looks pretty good and I've had good results with vaseline but want more shine. I bought P21S from our host but the tube says not to be used on anodized aluminum.

How can I tell if the anodizing has been removed?

If they are anodized, are there any recommendations other than vaseline?

Thanks

p21S is the best cleaner -- it comes in a bottle

stocks Fuchs are anodized - got a pic of yours?

Yup, it's P21S Multi-Surface High Gloss Finish Restorer

It says it restores the brilliance of alloy and wire wheels.

I'll post a pic in the morning.

Thanks

rub some between your fingers and see if you can feel any abrasiveness at all

- you may need to have the wheels polished to get more 'shine' but folks can tell from a pic if they are still anodized

Right, that's not the wheel cleaner. Anyway, if you want more shine then use it and see what happens. It'll probably remove some anodizing, but not really make it shiny anyway. You'll have to polish them or have them polished. Do a search, lots of postings about that subject for some obscure reason.

I've had the car less than 2 years and I didn't paint the wheels. Would one assume when they were painted red they would have removed the annodizing and polished them?
That red paint certainly wasn't stock was it?

Stock is anodized rim with black center. Yours are definitely polished. You don't have to remove anodizing to paint, but maybe it was done at the same time. Sure looks like you can use that p21S polish and have at it.

enjoy,
Stef

Polish on a rag will show up as black residue if polished...will show up clear or "nothing" if anodized.

Aha - when I polish my rims, the rag turns black.

Thanks

Definately polished.

No-one wants their wheels stolen, but you have gone to all that trouble to get your wheels looking good, only for that lock nut to bring the look down.

You could probably get it bead blasted and matched to the others. The wheels look great.

Thanks, I've always hated the red centers. This week I'm spraying them black and replacing the old nuts with black ones. Old nuts.

Anodized:

Polished:

Anodized finish on the lip or spoke with look like a slight cloudy coat over the aluminum.

The black anodized spoke with look like a flat black.

Wow, I can easily see the difference between anodized & polished now. Thanks for the pics, those wheels look great.

I'm definetly going with the petals & lips, I just wish there was another way to refer to that style other than petals & lips.

I'll post before & after pics when I'm done.
