I just noticed that I need two new lenses again due to spring gravel. so I've replaced 4 in 4 years of ownership. starts to add up... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/newthread.php?action=newthread&forumid=8 ell

I just had my lens shattered by a rock thrown by Ferrari 360.
by the way the lens for 87 H5 is pretty expensive

I bought them from pelican. They're about 1/4" thick. The optics aren't 100%. I didn't notice any degradation with 130/100w. The best optics are bug eye, obnoxious, and deep plastic covering, forgot the name. Install is gentle and patient or you'll wind up with air bubbles. It's best to use them on new lens. Old lens that are chipped has suffered lower optics already. Overall I am very happy with them.

whatever that means without knowing more about it except that the optics trip is all boiled down to photon refraction & absorbtion. Lighting up Supersistion mt on crystal clear lens and 130w highs is a good example.

thanks all - I'll give them a shot when I order the new lenses (clear silicone filling the bullet holes for now)
Jerome - Spring gravel - very similar to mexican jumping beans. it's the stuff they put on the snow up here in the mountains now instead of using salt - that and mag chloride, which is really nasty and way more corrosive than good old salt. replacing my jeep's 5 year old factory muffler this weekend - mean stuff flyin' around here man! thin air yunno

Can they handle the heat from an 80/100 watt bulb set-up without melting?
Oh, with regard to the original question... I've had the heavy rubber "film" for several car headlights and it has always worked perfectly - no matter how much crud hits them. I just don't know if it can handle the heat.
