"street lightened" 3.0 flywheel?
I noticed in Wayne's rebuilding book, in the part of machine shop service prices, the "street lightened" flywheel, with 1/2 pound removed.
Can anyone running such a flywheel let me know how it drives? The car is a daily driven SC, and I am looking for slightly faster response and an easier load on the engine if it is worth it and doesn't compromise street driving. Thanks, Olivier

The aluminium pressure plate (sachs power clutch) is several pounds lighter I think I read as much as 8 lbs . I used one in my 86 a few years ago. It reved up and down noticably more quickly.I personally would only remove enough material from the flywheel to restore the surface and buy a new clutch assembly if in there anyway . John

I am thinking about an aluminium flywheel and an aluminium sach's pressure plate. What do you good gentlemen think about the potential performance increase?

the potential performance increase = 0 (or really, = the same as taking that much wt. off of your rear seats or something like that)
What you will get is more feel of "revability" - but since you have CIS (right?) on your '77, that will impede throttle response. So if you need to change anyway, it makes some sense. But not to do it if your clutch is not worn - unless you are going to redo teh entire engien with carbs or MFI or aftermarket EFI, exhaust etc. .... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thank you randyweb. I did think an additional 200 hp was a bit optimistic.

Since the light pressure plate assemblies for a 930 are quite expensive and I have access to a machine shop and balancing machine I removed a couple of lbs off my clutch assembly for free. I'm too cheap to spend a lot of $$$ on crisper throttle response and negligible improvements in acceleration.

I have the Sach power clutch in my 3.0 with a 7:31 rp and it revs up real quick, works best on lower gears because that's when you are accelerating the mass (less) the most. By 4th there isn't much difference.
I also have a 12lb alum flywheel on my BMW M5 and it made a realy nice change as well however the RPMs drop pretty quick between gear changes but still idles smooth. Cliff
