Window Swith Issue: Works until I push it into the pannel
I have what I believe is a weird electrical gremlin. The window switch works well. That is, until I push it into the pannel opening.
It seems that as I push it into the opening, it stops working. I dont' think that by pushing it in, that it's disconnecting wires or anything. I wonder if it's just the pressure from the pannel being placed on the sides of the switch. Has anyone ever experienced this? Michael |
Michael:
What car is this on? Check to see if the rubber bootie behind the switch is pulled up into its proper place. I suspect the wires may be grounding on the steel door panel. Also some liquid rubber electrical tape is a great help too. Chuck |
I had this exact problem recently!!
I even bought a new switch which I didn't need afterall. CHeck the fit of the wires onto the switch itself. Mine were just loose enough to stop contact when pushing it into the door panel. I squished them a bit so they fit tight on the blade terminals and no more problem. You may also want to check for chafing around the grommet where they come thorough the door. Hope this helps. |
Chuck and Wayne. You are correct. I thought it might be something to do with pressure on the sides, but I was wrong. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
