Pertronix and 2.7: Engine Miss Solved
Hey all,
Figured I'd share my story with everone, maybe it would help others as well... My '77 2.7 would miss/hesitate at around 3500RPMs. I thought something was knocked loose when I trailered the car back to MI from NM, since it seemed to run great back in NM... I put a pertronix in the dizzy about a year ago, and like I said, it ran good. However, I popped the cap off today and noticed that the pertronix was loose--jiggling back and forth. Upon further inspection, I found that after removing the pertronix, the plate it was mounted to has a single flat-head screw that holds it into place. This thing had backed itself out... Tightened up the screw, re-installed everything, checked my clearance, and VROOM! Smooth sailing. Summer is here! |

fwiw.. I used a small connector bus bar to wire in the pertronix for a quick R&R with the smugglers box spare unit. The spare is wired with open connectors. I don't trust any thing that's necessary and is electrionic near engine heat. Points is also ready to go. thx for the heads up |
Kris,
Great! I'm glad you got it fixed in time for MI driving season!!! |
HAHAHA
I call my '77 "Greta." Next time I swing "Downstate" i'll have to stop in and check out your '74. |
Thanks for the info, I have a Pertronix unit in my 74. It's nice to have some ideas what to look for if these symptons pop up.
