Hose ID

Does anyone know what the gray looking hose in the pic is for? It connects to the metal item in the pic and then is routed to a hole in the firewall/engine shelf but it isn't connected on that end. Something to do with the cruise control maybe?? Does it have any effect on the engine if it is left unattached? I'm trying to chase down air leaks. Thanks in advance.

Open vent for the cruise control. It is routed properly.
