RPM reading from hpx ignition
I have an Electromotive HPX ignition which I have on my 914-6
2.0 L "E' motor. When I started it up to check the carbs and timing for the first time I hooked up my timing light which has a built in tach. I noticed the reading on the timing light tach was much higher than my dash tach. I did put in an early 911 '6 cyl.' tach and also an MSD tach amplifier to read from the HPX. Which reading should I go by? The timing light tach or the dash tach. |

hard to say. you probably need three tachs to break the tie. If you have a six cylinder engine, you definintely need to set the tach up that way. You could pull the tach from your dash and send it out for calibration. Then you'd know it was spot on.
I guess, either one could be calibrated and then you'd know. I'd hedge my bets towards a digital tach on the timing light than an old tach, but that's a guess. Doug
