1981 911SC galled top nut on Boge Strut

Was taking apart my right front Boge strut for Koni inserts and galled the top nut and body threads terribly unscrewing it. Cannot get the new Koni nut in further than maybe 2 threads. Is there a solution for this other than finding a good used strut?

Left strut came apart just fine......

Thanks

Sure, the old nut on the right and the new Koni nut on the left. The interior threads in the strut look just as bad....

I do not even know where to start on that, not many ship builders around north Texas. Thanks

Take the old nut from the other side and cut 3 or 4 slices across the threads just to the bottom of the threads clean it up on with a wire wheel and use it as a clean up tap go slow and use plenty of spray oil It will clean up the internal threads

The better nut from the left one goes in but very tight so this might get me where I need to be. Great idea, now to the Dremel tool for the cuts. Thanks!

Hi
Post #6 is a good option, alternatively, suggest you obtain the correct pitch thread file and use it to clean up the damaged threads in the strut.
Hope this helps
Cheers

If the nut starts to thread in you could add some valve lapping compound to the threads and work the nut back and forth multiple times until it threads in. This will take some patients.

Lapping compound I may be at next. The one good original nut, after slicing into the threads, now fits very loose and the Koni nut is only in maybe +/- 1/2 another thread. So no more benefit from it.

Trying to buy a second Koni nut before I slice cuts into the one I have to help it cut a path.

Thanks
