Question Tranny Gurus, Lend Me Your Eyes

I am assuming my 3-4 slider is rounded to the point where it needs to be replaced.

Strangely enough there is no similar wear on the gear dog teeth.

Would those here with more experience related to the wear limits of porsche tranny engagement mechanisms care to validate or disagree with my opinion?

Thanks.

Here is the sharp side for 4th gear

And the dull side for the more frequently used 3rd.

Looks like it - view thru a magnifier lens and see if there isn't a concave bite taken out of each one... that works on old BMWs anyway...

More importantly, what do the sides of those teeth look like? The sides are machined with a slight back cut and with high mileage the back cut wears parallel to the axis. When this happens the gear will pop out.

Another thing to measure is the width of the groove for the slider. Drivers that rest their hand on the shifter will wear out the grooves and forks.

The grooves and friction surfaces appear to be in good shape, its just the pointy tips that are a bit rounded.

If they are all rounded and symmetrical I would reuse it. But I am cheap. What bother's me is that last tooth to the left next to the spider slot. That slider looks like it is ready to be replaced.

I just rebuilt a 901. I found the same wear. The sliders were worn and the dog teeth were not.
