On track communication while driving

Is there some type of device that you can wear or place in helmet and have another person wear (in another car or in stands) to communicate? A phone or walkie talkie of sorts.

Yes we have a couple of radios and headset, so people can be at various parts of the track and spot for the driver.

Even a Basic set up isnt cheap though.

Even at a huge track like Watkins Glen we can can communicate well.

These are marketed towards motorcycle drivers who want to communicate to the passenger on the back of the bike. You can buy the below set from a lot of Motocycle shops for ~$100.

Edit....missed the part about being in the stands, not in the car!

go to ebay, look for Nady motorcycle intercom. You can find brand new for about 50 bucks.

The Nady units are crap. Save your money. Get a Chatterbox. Also designed for motorcycles. A bit more money, but much, much better quality.

The motorcycle equipment can be wired or wireless. Chatterbox is a high quality product. Range? How big is the track? Mounting on a helmet or not (someone in the pit or stands)...it could work and cheaper than some comm. system that are marketed for auto track use.

there is system available where you can use motorola talkabout radios, gives your a push to talk button/helmet mounted mike/earbuds.......about $100 not counting the cost of the radios.
we used this setup and it worked perfectly.....been a few years since we bought it though, so i'll have to dig up the supplier info.

Cool stuff guys thanks. I think it would be fun and helpful to be able to communicate with someone in another car or in the stands while driving. I'll check out the Motorola and other FRS or GPS radios.
