Paint Type? 86 Carrera Grand Prix White
I am ready to have a couple panels stripped and repainted. The car is orig paint - Grand Prix White. The first place I went to thought they would do a base - clearcoat job. I was under the impression this was not the type of paint used.
Is a single stage enamel the same as the orig? If not, what was the type used? thx todd 86 coupe |

An '86 should be a two stage paint from the factory. If for some odd reason it isn't your going to have a hard time getting any acrylic enamal now days. I'm not sure about Tucson but here in So Cal it isn't even available anymore.

Thanks Kevin
Since I am not knowledgeable on paint and just so I have the terminology right, when you refer to two stage, you are referring to base coat - clearcoat ? Is that the type for all finishes [i.e., opaque as well as metallic]? thx todd 86 coupe |

FWIW, PPG Delstar and Dupont Centari are both singlestage paints that are easy to use and readily available (I just bought and sprayed some PPG Delstar on my GP White 911 recently). These are not the highest tech paints nowadays, but both have been used for a long time to spray many a car.
